About Craig

Since 2004, Craig Hong has honed his expertise advising business owners and individuals in the mining and resources sectors across a spectrum of often complex legal matters.

Known for his commercial pragmatism, Craig is able to develop effective strategies and practical solutions to achieve client objectives.

Craig has expertise in business structuring, intellectual property, commercial law, contracts advice, business sales and acquisitions and a raft of organisational matters that include HR and corporate governance.

His technical knowledge and experience is of the highest level, but perhaps what sets Craig apart from his legal contemporaries is his genuine client partnering approach.

Craig invests time with clients upfront to gain a clear understanding of what he describes as ‘the mission critical issues’.  This allows him, and his clients, to identify and agree on core matters, set priorities and understand the best approach for diminishing or eliminating risks to efficiently achieve solutions.

Craig delivers highly strategic, specific and fair-priced advice that provides his clients with clarity and reassurance. Indeed, Craig’s approach, and that of his firm Hillhouse Legal Partners, is to provide direct access to bespoke advice without the additional cost of multiple levels or layering that has traditionally defined law firm structures.

As you might expect, Craig’s transparent approach, high level skills and extensive knowledge has won a legion of loyal clients. Most of whom are referred by other satisfied clients and aligned professionals who recognise the value that he adds for clients.  Both, but particularly the latter, appreciate Craig’s commitment to achieving superior results through collaboration as complex matters often require seamlessly integrated, multi-discipline advice to achieve the best outcomes.

Craig has a keen interest in and strong knowledge of advancing technologies.  Hillhouse Legal Partners has invested in equipment enabling full mobility in servicing clients at their own locations. Craig is cognisant of the challenges of technological disruption for businesses.  He enjoys collaborating with clients on ways to optimally leverage technology to solve problems and improve business efficacy.

Craig also advises clients in technology-related matters including Intellectual Property (IP) and protecting custom-developed software and equipment, operational commercial contracts and guides transactions for business sales, mergers and acquisitions.

Personally

Raised in Tamworth, NSW, Craig grew up in a close-knit family led by a mother who taught her children the importance of resilience, empathy and concern for others. These qualities, blended with Craig’s highly intelligent, naturally competitive and strategic approach to most things – golf, basketball and gaming (he once represented Australia in Magic the Gathering, a strategic card game played by gamers worldwide) – are among the traits that underpin his considerable success to date.

Married with a young family that keeps him grounded, Craig leads a modern legal firm that is steeped in strong ethics and the principles of client-service thanks to values instilled by his fellow directors. Craig is also inspired by basketball superstar LeBron James who describes success as continuing to invest in your own body and mind and to never cease striving for greatness.
