About Madeline…
Naturally goal driven, at 14 years of age Madeline set her mind on studying medicine towards a career in neuro or cardiothoracic surgery. She studied Biomedical Science at Queensland University of Technology and gained professional experience in medical environments in both administrative and clinical roles. Further to her practical experience, she also developed a keen interest in biotechnology and healthtech, collaborating with peers from other science disciplines to design a prototype for a portable PET scanner.
As a clinical assistant completing work experience in medical centres throughout regional Queensland, Madeline gained valuable hands-on insights when assisting in minor medical procedures and communicating with people often in distress, and from all walks of life.
Throughout this time, she also privately tutored school-aged students, including those with learning or behavioural issues. In combination with her practical clinical experience, she credits teaching for the development of her high-level communication skills, where there was a constant need to communicate concepts using language familiar to the student and convey progress to parents. Madeline also applied these skills at university, where she volunteered as a peer tutor in first and second year labs.
It’s perhaps this intersection of her skills in technology and administration, attention to detail and identifying patterns in data, experience in high pressure environments and front-line communication with people with diverse needs and backgrounds, that enabled Madeline to expand her interests beyond medicine and to succeed in business environments, a field in which she always held a personal interest.
Her avid interest in technology has evolved to include fintech, marketing and social media software; in particular, Madeline has a keen interest and appreciation for the intersection of strategy and design behind social media and marketing platforms, including how their amalgamation feeds a booming e-commerce environment.
As well as a curiosity for technology, Madeline maintains a key appreciation for the language and communication skills developed throughout her teaching experience. She strongly believes in the value of effective communication throughout business and technology.
This appreciation and affinity for communication and technology was part of what led to her appointments as New Business Manager and Marketing Coordinator for the extended Stratus Financial Group and Resources Unearthed collective, a role that sees her in constant communication with professionals, executives and business owners in the mining and resources industry, many of whom are located overseas.
She thoroughly enjoys her role in guiding prospects through every step of the new client journey at Stratus, as well as keeping up-to-date with the activities of Stratus’ existing clients.
Her recent years with Stratus have also seen an extensive growth in Madeline’s knowledge and marketing coordination skills, which include numerous social media elements and podcasting. Madeline also works in project teams within Stratus to test, analyse and evaluate new fintech and software with the goal of assisting Stratus clients and business in moving to a predominantly digital space.
Her combined client and marketing roles also see Madeline facilitate collaboration in numerous formats: coordinating collaboration of professional advisers to work towards solutions that service a client’s best interest or creating opportunities for existing clients to work together professionally. For example, as a consequence of appearing in recent episodes of Resourceful, a podcast series Madeline coordinates, two of Stratus’ expatriate clients are now working together professionally.
Madeline is studying a Diploma of Project Management to further educate herself and build skills.
Personally…
Madeline is a third generation Somerville House alumnus who has been inspired and influenced by strong women all her life. While Dame Helena Morrisey, Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Michelle Obama and Tarana Burke are role models, no one inspires Maddie as much as her own grandmother and mother. Her grandmother is a retired pharmacist who graduated at a time when women were not encouraged to pursue higher education, and her mother is an ex-midwife with a generous and caring spirit.
Madeline is passionate about music and is always on the hunt for new artists. Along with her housemates, she is gradually collecting an indoor jungle of houseplants, an interest she credits to the green thumbs of her mother and grandmother.
